PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 22, 2015 — Entefy announced today that Dr. Rudd Canaday, co-inventor of UNIX, has recently joined their team as Senior Architect & Engineer.

Since writing his first computer program as a Harvard undergrad, Dr. Canaday’s career has been one of many firsts. He was a co-inventor of UNIX, one of the first operating systems to be written in a high-level programming language and a game changer in computer technology. He also directed the design of the first database server as well as the first automated voice-response directory information system, just to name a few. Most recently, he developed Cima System’s flagship product, CS TelAppoint, featuring interactive communications.

Dr. Canaday’s vast engineering prowess and passion for collaborating on disruptive technologies drew him to Entefy. When asked “Why Entefy?” he said “Entefy is working on solving an extremely difficult problem that will fundamentally change the way we interact in our increasingly connected world, and I just had to be part of it.”

Entefy CEO and Co-Founder, Alston Ghafourifar, said, “We are honored to have Rudd on board. We’re breaking new ground at Entefy and it’s a thrill to have someone on our team with his level of experience, passion, and unique gift for developing smart solutions.”

A special gathering with Entefy friends

As a company, Entefy is built on amazing talent, rare passion, and lasting friendships. So as Entefyers, we never forget the importance of camaraderie–whether it’s with Entefy Volleyball Day or this special gathering with Entefy friends.

Entefy supports women in science, technology, engineering, aviation, and mathematics

Gender equality is critical to the future of innovation. Innovation, specifically in science, technology, engineering, aviation, and mathematics are fundamental to our growth as a society. Yet despite the decades of progress we’ve made in career and education, women remain largely underrepresented in these crucial fields. That’s why we seize every opportunity to recognize and support the brave ones fighting the good fight like this recent benefit gala in which Brienne Ghafourifar, co-founder of Entefy, supports women in science, technology, engineering, aviation, and mathematics.

This news, combined with the company’s recent capital raise, bringing its venture funding total to $5.25 million, caps off a successful pre-launch period for Entefy as it prepares for the beta release of its debut product.

“We are honored to welcome Wim and Duncan to the Entefy team. Their collective executive experience, technological knowledge, and passion for innovation will be great assets to us as we advance our business strategy and brand rollout,” said Entefy CEO, Alston Ghafourifar.

The new board members were equally enthusiastic about joining Entefy.

“I think this is one of those rare opportunities where a secular shift in consumer behavior and disruptive technology come together and the team assembled is talented, energetic and, highly focused,” said Niederauer.

As CEO of NYSE Euronext, Niederauer transformed and grew the organization while navigating through the financial crisis, evolving market and regulatory conditions, and industry consolidation. Under his leadership, the New York Stock Exchange experienced a significant increase in its technology IPO listings, from 13% in 2006 to 54% in 2013. Niederauer also negotiated and completed NYSE Euronext’s acquisition by Intercontinental Exchange.

“I immediately connected with the founding team and their vision for technology and the future of communication. To me, Entefy is tackling a challenge that can lead to a real breakthrough and I’m delighted to be part of it,” said Roelandts

Roelandts’ leadership as the CEO of Xilinx drove the company’s revenue to more than triple, to nearly $2 billion, while increasing market share in the programmable logic business from 30 percent to over 50 percent. Roelandts’ decades of experience as a technology executive has helped foster innovation at a number of other global organizations including Hewlett PackardApplied Materials, and Aruba Networks.

Entefy’s first Open House

We were delighted to welcome the community to Entefy’s first open house in Palo Alto. Curious guests from all corners of the tech industry and the Bay Area streamed in to discover what we do, how we do it, and why it’s worth doing.

Why we exist

Since time eternal, people have been able to communicate on their own terms, without interruption or interference. There were no security backdoors in telegrams, no metadata breaches on the Pony Express, and no ads embedded in smoke signals. Somewhere between now and then, we lost our way.

As much as our technology has improved, the leaders of our industry have kept pace in complicating the process of communication, primarily out of greed and fear.

Entefy stands defiantly in the face of greed and fear.

Let’s talk about greed. We are a for-profit enterprise, and we make no bones about it. But we’re not going to make a dime by polluting your conversations with advertising you didn’t ask for. We’ll make our money the old-fashioned way: by providing a service worth paying for. With apologies to Wall Street’s Gordon Gekko, greed is not good. It can stifle real advancement and is frankly, a bad reason to do anything.

Now let’s talk about fear. It’s scary. That’s kind of the point. But there’s healthy fear and there’s being overcome with it. We think that fear has infiltrated technology and communication to a detrimental level. Having your conversations mined by hackers, advertisers, providers, and governments used to be a potential hazard of communicating digitally. Now it’s the norm. We think there’s something very wrong with that.

We’re a young company, and we acknowledge that so much will inevitably change as we grow. We have a vision for what communication can and should be, but we can’t predict the future. We do know, however, that everything Entefy builds, does, and says will not be motivated by greed and fear, but by the desire to deliver clear, simple, and powerful ways to connect and communicate–it’s why we exist.

Entefy’s core product is being developed and we’d love to tell you all about it. But that’s for another time. Right now, you can be sure of two things: it will not contain ads that siphon or interrupt your communications, and it will not sell or distribute your data to anybody. Period.

In reality, our competition is not other communication, storage, or search companies.

Our competition is Greed and Fear.

And we’re determined to win.
